DEFINING MOMENTS - November 21st
Workshops
Delivered by youth, for youth across the country, workshops will be available to guide participants through an exploration of how "defining moments" in Canadian history have shaped their personal narratives and identities.
How do you shape Canada? How does Canada shape you? We're calling on young Canadians to explore, express, and showcase their individual and collective identities!
When do you feel most Canadian? And if you could express it creatively, through any medium, what would you create?
Defining Moments: Discovering Our Canadian Stories invites you to submit artwork that expresses your personal relationship with Canada. Offered by TakingITGlobal and supported by Canadian Heritage, Defining Moments is a national digital media arts and citizenship project, taking participants on a journey through accounts of Canadian identity. Open to 13 to 30 year olds across the country, we will be showcasing the artwork of young Canadians here on the Defining Moments website and a traveling exhibit. Stay tuned for our online collection, dates for workshops and exhibits near you!

CELEBRITY PORTRAIT
CELEBRITY PORTRAIT EXHIBITION On Friday, October 21st, The Bohemian Cafe & Gallery hosted the NEW art Challenge titled: Celebrity Portrait.
Congratulations to Matt Sitler for having his piece declared MP Tony Clement's favourite entry and all the artist for creating wonderful pieces of art!
SILENT AUCTION continues until Friday, October 28th. Proceeds to Muskoka Arts & Crafts and Huntsville Arts Society
Don’t have a place for an original portrait of MP Tony Clement in your home? Consider purchasing it to donate to a public building, office or friend.
My daughter Kristin and I are fans of reality TV. We followed many programs and one of our favourites is Star Portraits. We were inspired by the concept and created Celebrity Portrait. The idea of bringing local celebrities together with the community to support local charities feels very rewarding.
For the nights event we revealed how 5 local artists portrayed local celebrity MP Tony Clement.
MP Tony Clement, Dayna Barley-Cohrs, Vern Fish, Matt Sitler, Kristin Wright and myself really enjoyed being involved.
A special thank you to the artists for taking the time to produce wonderful portraits of MP Tony Clement.
I would also like to thank,

FARAWAY NEIGHBOURS - Thursday October 20th
Alt Folk
October 20th, 8:30pm
By donation
Chris Cucullo - Guitarist
Andrew Sowka - Bassist
Vince Aquilina - Drummer
North Bay-based alt folk act Faraway Neighbours wears their influences proudly: the band's debut album "Carry On, Man" crafts soundscapes which reflect their love of Radiohead, Grizzy Bear, Great Lake Swimmers and Ambulance Ltd. in a style all their own.
Originally hailing from Sault Sainte Marie, the trio -- guitarist Chris Cucullo, bassist Andrew Sowka and drummer Vince Aquilina -- produced their debut over four months in winter 2010 with producer Ben Leggett handling mastering duties. Released May 28, 2011 on indie imprint Brood Records, the disc's 11 tracks deliver songs with literate, carefully crafted lyrics, rich harmonies and curious arrangements -- no surprise given the band members' early introduction to music.
In the case of Vince Aquilina, folk music wasn't just a past time, it was a serious vocation - the drummer's father cut high school short to pursue music and that interest carried over to family life. Aquilina was raised in a musical household filled with instruments and joined a youth choir as a boy. Life for bassist Sowka wasn't much different; his uncle repaired and built mandolins and ukuleles. Lyricist Cucullo's father prided himself on his collection of guitars. For all three, music was serious business, and finding joy in it became effortless. Faraway Neighbours have made it a mission to take a page from Grizzly Bear and Radiohead: make music that you love and you will undoubtedly find an audience willing to listen.
Since their debut two years ago, Faraway Neighbours have shared stages with Craig Cardiff, Wax Mannequin, Jean Paul de Roover and were featured artists at the 2011 Kitchener Ontario Independent Music Festival alongside Most Serene Republic and Dead and Divine.

TERRY GILL AND FRIENDS
Art Exhibition
Sept 23rd - 30th
Open Reception 7-9pm.
Featuring original artwork by Terry Gill, Emerald Chamberlain, Ulrich Hollin and Ron Challenger - members of the Huntsville Art Society.
Terry Gill - Impressions of Nature
Terry Gill, a self-taught artist, developed his wet-on-wet technique while guiding canoe trips and enjoying the natural landscapes of Ontario. Upon retirement, his lifelong interest in painting began to flourish and mature.
His love of nature is apparent in his work, and his style of painting allows the brush, paint and water to have absolute freedom, taking him to unknown places, never knowing the final result until he arrives there.
Terry's passion for his work has given birth to a series of "Spirit" paintings and posters, each of which speaks to the spirit of the outdoors, and the importance of respecting our environment.
His unlimited images of nature are shared joyfully and enthusiastically with others, as he continues to give generously of his time through demonstrating and teaching.
"I dedicate my paintings to the healing of our environment. It is crucial that we honour the earth as sacred and protect our air and water; our lands, forests, and oceans; our wildlife; our children's future." Terry Gill.
Emerald Chamberlain
Recently Emerald has been working with the finest quality specialty Imported – mostly Japanese papers. She personally selects each piece and works to create a collage like piece of art. These highly textured and colorful pieces are organic in nature and are sometimes referred to as Painting with Paper.
In 2007 while attending courses at the Halibuton School of Art Emerald discovered her love of paper; she began doing small landscapes made from torn paper and marketed hundreds of Note Cards with these landscapes. Last year Emerald took a leap of faith and started working on larger canvas, using the torn paper technique, learning at she worked. Emerald has been successfully exhibiting works in Acrylic and Watercolor for the last 5 years. As a member of the Huntsville Art Crowd/ Huntsville Art Society she has participated in many art shows and was selected for the Juried show “CELEBRATE” held at the Art Space a new Gallery in Huntsville.
Currently she is a showing at The Art Space in Huntsville and at the Bohemian Café and Gallery in Bracebridge.
Ulrich Hollin
I've always been moved by the beauty of nature and the power of majestic landscapes. When I started painting in watercolor almost three decades ago, I naturally gravitated to landscapes A few years ago, I began working with oils and continue to enjoy them. am fascinated by the differences in the two media. The natural beauty of Muskoka was a strong drawing card when my wife and I "emigrated" here from the south. Since living here, I also developed an interest in woodcarving I've always loved working with wood, the smell of it, the feel of it and am very much interested in the three dimensional and tactile aspects of carving. Most of all, there is the fascination of the constant learning process, both internal and in technique. In the 1990's I took part in several group showings at the Mandeville Gallery in Torornto and the Gabor Gallery in Toronto. I also took part in a juried show at the Latcham Gallery in Stouffville. I've also taken part in events organized by the Huntsville Art Society.

Ron Challenger
Ron is a self-taught artist who works in pen & ink, watercolours and oils. He has gained valuable experience and knowledge over the years by working with and attending workshops conducted by local and nationally recognized artists.
Ron paintings explore many themes from landscapes and seascapes to local and weathered structures. Residing in Muskoka provides many subjects and scenes to choose from. Both Originals and Giclee fine art reproductions are available and commissions considered.

Dave White - Guitar/ Vocals / Straighteners

"In the blistering cold of North Bay Ontario, Two young men set out to write songs about parties, drinking and dancing the night away with strangers, the differences between love and lust, and the general trials and tribulations of growing up in Northern Ontario.
When the band finally sat down to come up with a name for their Album, they realized that the CD was written as much by their friends, places, families and amigos as themselves, and that the CD had to be named after everyone who took part in it
